Amman, Nov. 19 (Petra) Director-General of the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Fayrouz Mubaidin, outlined on Tuesday the key measures the agency employs to preserve the integrity of the Arabic language across its editorial content during a visit by a delegation from the Amman Group for Future Dialogues.
Mubaidin reviewed the agency’s ongoing efforts in this regard, including specialized linguistic editing for the general news bulletin, updated writing policies in editorial departments, and the development of digital content that aligns with modern usage while maintaining linguistic authenticity and precision.
She emphasized Petra’s commitment to its national role in reinforcing Arabic within the media landscape through training journalists and producing knowledge materials that help raise linguistic awareness across Jordanian society.
Bilal Tal, founder and president of the Amman Group for Future Dialogues and CEO of the National Project to Defend the Arabic Language, presented the outlines of the project’s second phase, detailing its main components and implementation plans.
Tal underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation with media institutions to support the project, particularly by ensuring the use of correct Arabic in journalistic and media materials and delivering content in a clear, engaging manner that reinforces linguistic identity.
He noted that the upcoming phase aims to expand awareness of the importance of protecting the Arabic language and strengthening its presence in media and digital content.
Tal added that the project has organized several competitions in recent months in Quran recitation, poetry, and public speaking targeting students to encourage their participation in activities that build linguistic skills and deepen appreciation for the cultural and civilizational value of Arabic.
The meeting concluded with an extensive discussion between the visiting delegation and Petra’s editorial directors, focusing on the importance of safeguarding the Arabic language in media content and sustaining joint efforts to enhance linguistic accuracy in journalistic work.
The delegation included former Minister of Transport Lina Shabib, Senator Mahasin Al-Jaghoub, former Constitutional Court member and law professor Numan Al-Khatib, and writer Sara Taleb Suhail.
